About Saela & Co

THE STORY OF SAELA & CO

It all began in 1957, when my grandparents left their small fishing village on the Icelandic coast.
In their modest suitcases, they carried with them more than clothes — they carried patterns, memories, and the spirit of Icelandic craftsmanship. Among them was the lopapeysa, the traditional Icelandic wool sweater, a symbol of warmth, resilience, and belonging.

In their new home, they built a tiny workshop by hand. It wasn’t much — a few wooden tables, the smell of wool and soap, and the sound of the knitting needles clinking late into the night. But there, under the soft light of old lamps, the first Saela sweaters were born. They weren’t just garments; they were letters from home, threads connecting them to the land and people they missed.

As the years went by, the sweaters found their way into the hearts of families across generations. My parents continued the tradition, expanding what began as a humble workshop into a family legacy built on care, honesty, and the quiet beauty of handmade work. Each piece was made slowly, deliberately — because real warmth takes time.

When my husband, Co, and I took over, we carried the same love in our hearts. We brought new fits, modern tones, and soft materials — but we never lost the soul of what Saela & Co. stood for: love, craftsmanship, and human connection.
Together, we turned tradition into something living — something that could be worn, felt, and remembered.

But life has its seasons. After Co’s passing, the warmth in our workshop dimmed. His hands, once always covered in yarn and laughter, are no longer here.
And though my heart still beats for what we built together, I’ve made the difficult decision to close our doors.

This isn’t just the end of a business — it’s the closing of a love story that has lasted for three generations.
Every sweater in our final collection carries a piece of that story: the echo of laughter, the patience of craftsmanship, and the promise that love, once woven, never truly unravels.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey — for every order, every kind word, and every moment of warmth shared through our sweaters.
Saela & Co. may be ending, but the spirit of what we created will live on — in homes, in hearts, and in every thread that still carries our name.
